Frequently Asked Questions

  • The time is yours to ask questions and learn more about how I can help. This free 20-minute phone consultation will make sure we are a good fit for finding you the best therapist for your unique needs and circumstances. We can define confidentiality and a therapist’s ‘duty to warn’ at that time. Then we can setup a session date and time that fits with your schedule. There is no obligation to book a session during our initial consultation.

  • I will email you to set up your account through Jane App, to link you to my online booking portal. Please fill out the intake/consent form through this secure online system.

Take time to reflect on your goals and prepare. Most importantly, take time to relax and breath. I’ve got your back!

  • If our session is on the telephone, I will call you promptly on the phone number you’ve provided.

If using a secure video platform, 30 minutes prior to our appointment you will have received an email link to our appointment in Jane App. Or, you may sign into your Jane App account and click on the ‘begin session’ button next to the appointment time under the ‘upcoming appointment’ tab. Note, if you are having technical difficulties, please let me know and we can choose to have our session via telephone.

I may ask for written or verbal consent to speak with previous doctors, therapists, school personal etc. By collaborating and gathering yours or your child’s relevant mental and physical health history I can provide a higher quality assessment. I will not contact anyone without your consent to do so.

We start getting to know each other.

I will work with you, asking questions to gather relevant information to support my therapeutic understanding, and create a clear plan to help you move forward with your goals. This means our first two sessions may be question-heavy, but rest assured, not all sessions will work this way.

  • The options are endless and the decision on how frequently or for how many sessions we meet is completely dependent on you. You can help make that decision by finding what works best with your current budget, schedule and goals for seeking therapy. Whatever makes the most sense for you and your family, I will have flexibility in my schedule to help us meet together whenever possible.

  • Psychotherapy is a talk-based therapy where both client and therapist work together to help improve and maintain the client’s mental health and well-being. This might include making positive changes in the client’s thinking, feeling, behaviour and social functioning. People usually seek psychotherapy when they have thoughts, feelings, moods and behaviours that are negatively affecting their lives, relationships and the ability to feel fulfillment in their life.

  • Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) does not cover the cost of the services of a psychotherapist in private practice. Some work-based Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) may do so. Please consult your benefits plan first to see how much coverage you are entitled to.
